Auto Glass Repair in Lower 9th Ward, New Orleans
Here is what the
city's own records say about broken glass in this neighborhood — and who is licensed to deal with it.
65vehicles broken into
421collisions
150vehicles stolen
2licensed motor-trade businesses
Between January 2024 and September 16, 2026 the New Orleans Police Department
logged 65 vehicles broken into and 421 collisions inside
the Lower 9th Ward. That is 486 glass-breaking events in 990 days, or about 1% of everything the city recorded.
The Lower 9th Ward does not lean one way. Roughly
13% of the events were break-ins and 87% collisions,
so both kinds of glass work happen here in volume: tempered door windows that have gone to pellets,
and laminated windshields that have starred or cracked.
Year by year in Lower 9th Ward
| Year | Vehicles broken into | Collisions |
|---|
| 2024 | 24 | 149 |
| 2025 | 31 | 153 |
| 2026 (to Sept 16) | 10 | 119 |
Between the two full years on the table, break-ins went up by 7
and collisions went up by 4. The 2026 row is a partial
year — it stops on September 16, 2026 — so it is on the table to be read, not to be compared against the two above it.
Who works here
The city's licence register puts 2 motor-trade businesses
inside the Lower 9th Ward, though none of them holds a glass licence.
These are licences, not reviews — the register says who is allowed to trade, not who is good.
| On the register as | Trade | Licensed since |
| Pugh Auto Repair | Body and paint shop | 2008 |
| St Maurice Used Tire Shop | Tire dealer | 2010 |
None of them is licensed under Automotive Glass Replacement Shops — there are only
3 of those in the entire city. Here is what that actually means.
What to do with a cracked windshield
The question is always the same one: can it be repaired, or does the glass have to come out?
Repair is on the table while the damage is a chip or a short star, is not sitting in the
driver's direct line of sight, and is not close to the edge of the glass. Resin is injected into the
break, which stops it travelling and takes most of the mark out.
Repair is off the table once the crack has run — especially to the edge. The windshield is
bonded into the body and carries load; a crack that reaches the edge has compromised the part of it
that does the work. At that point replacement is the only honest answer, and anyone who tells you
otherwise is selling you a repair that will fail.
Check the mirror. If there is a camera housing behind it, the glass is carrying the sensor
for lane keeping and automatic braking, and the system has to be recalibrated after the new glass
goes in. Say the year, make and model when you ask for a quote so nobody is surprised on the day.

licence, which is not a recommendation. How we use city data.
