Auto Glass Repair New Orleans

Where Cars Crash in New Orleans

The same NOPD call records, filtered to collisions instead of break-ins: 42,135 of them over January 2024 through September 16, 2026, or 42.6 a day. This is the other half of why windshields break here.

Why the top of this table is not the top of the other one

The Central Business District leads on collisions with 3,783. It is a downtown with a stadium, a convention centre, an interstate feeding into it and a street grid full of one-ways — which produces collisions the way a residential street produces break-ins.

That distinction is the practical one for glass. A collision that breaks glass usually breaks the windshield, which is laminated, structural and on most modern cars carries the camera for lane keeping and automatic braking. A break-in breaks a side window, which is tempered and carries nothing. Same trade, different job, different day.

What is not on this page

These are calls to the police, not insurance claims and not a crash severity index. A fender-bender that someone called in counts once; one that the drivers sorted out between themselves does not appear at all. The number is therefore a floor, not a total — and it is consistent year to year, which is what makes comparing neighborhoods worth doing.

We also do not know which of these collisions broke glass. Nobody does; it is not a field the NOPD records. What we can say is that 42,135 collisions in 990 days is the pool the windshield work comes out of.
