Auto Glass Repair in French Quarter, New Orleans
Here is what the
city's own records say about broken glass in this neighborhood — and who is licensed to deal with it.
294vehicles broken into
945collisions
414vehicles stolen
Nonelicensed motor-trade businesses
Between January 2024 and September 16, 2026 the New Orleans Police Department
logged 294 vehicles broken into and 945 collisions inside
the French Quarter. That is 1,239 glass-breaking events in 990 days, or about 3% of everything the city recorded.
The French Quarter does not lean one way. Roughly
24% of the events were break-ins and 76% collisions,
so both kinds of glass work happen here in volume: tempered door windows that have gone to pellets,
and laminated windshields that have starred or cracked.
Year by year in French Quarter
| Year | Vehicles broken into | Collisions |
|---|
| 2024 | 101 | 364 |
| 2025 | 120 | 336 |
| 2026 (to Sept 16) | 73 | 245 |
Between the two full years on the table, break-ins went up by 19
and collisions went down by 28. The 2026 row is a partial
year — it stops on September 16, 2026 — so it is on the table to be read, not to be compared against the two above it.
Who works here
Searching the register for the French Quarter returns no motor-trade licence of any kind. That is worth
knowing before you plan your morning around dropping the car off.
This is the practical argument for mobile service, and it is why a lot of glass work in New Orleans
happens on the kerb rather than in a bay. A van can reach a car that cannot safely be driven — and a
car with a smashed window should not be driven across town in the rain to reach a shop.

What to do with a cracked windshield
The question is always the same one: can it be repaired, or does the glass have to come out?
Repair is on the table while the damage is a chip or a short star, is not sitting in the
driver's direct line of sight, and is not close to the edge of the glass. Resin is injected into the
break, which stops it travelling and takes most of the mark out.
Repair is off the table once the crack has run — especially to the edge. The windshield is
bonded into the body and carries load; a crack that reaches the edge has compromised the part of it
that does the work. At that point replacement is the only honest answer, and anyone who tells you
otherwise is selling you a repair that will fail.
Check the mirror. If there is a camera housing behind it, the glass is carrying the sensor
for lane keeping and automatic braking, and the system has to be recalibrated after the new glass
goes in. Say the year, make and model when you ask for a quote so nobody is surprised on the day.
Where French Quarter sits against the rest of the city

6,798 break-ins and 42,135 collisions over the same 990 days,

The comparison is on the front page, with every neighborhood in one table.
